Internationally renowned for pioneering, multi-disciplinary research, the Thrombosis Research Institutes comprise two independent charitable foundations based in London, United Kingdom and Bangalore, India.

Research:

United by a shared mission to provide excellence in thrombosis research, education and patient care and to develop new strategies to prevent and treat thrombosis, the Thrombosis Research Institutes are unique, pioneering research establishments which bring bringing together a multi-disciplinary group of scientists and clinicians to work on the inter-related priorities of thrombosis.

With a number of departments undertaking basic and fundamental research, the two organisations bring together state of the art facilities and outstanding personnel to deliver a cutting edge research programme.

Our programmes’ combined activities encompass

  • drug discovery, as well as
  • basic scientific and clinical research

Our overarching research goals are to understand the disease process and develop novel and affordable therapies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in order to prevent long term disability and early death.

In summary our joint principle research objectives are:

  • To develop a simple and inexpensive test to identify (at an early age) those individuals most at risk of cardiovascular disease
  • To develop an affordable vaccine for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke
  • To undertake genetic, epidemiological studies in the Asian Indian population to identify those most at risk of coronary heart disease
  • To further elucidate how natural anti-clotting molecules affect the behaviour of cells and how heparin can be used to treat cancers as well as heart attacks, strokes and inflammation
