Professor the Lord Kakkar is Professor of Surgery at University College London (UCL), Consultant Surgeon for UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Chairman for Clinical Quality (UCL Partners Academic Health Sciences System), and Director of the Thrombosis Research Institute (London, UK).
Lord Kakkar completed his medical education at King’s College Hospital Medical School, University of London, and was awarded an MBBS and a PhD from Imperial College London. He was made a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1992 and was made a life peer in 2010.
Lord Kakkar’s research interests include the prevention and treatment of venous and arterial thromboembolic disease and cancer-associated thrombosis. His most recent awards include James IV Association of Surgeons Travelling Fellow (2006) and Wellcome Memorial Lecture (Royal Society of Medicine, 2009).
